Many things play into the role of a professional teacher. The teacher serves as a role model to their students, in some cases the only positive role model a child sees. Failing to act in a professional may lead to setting a bad example to the students and cause the students to lose respect for the teacher. A teacher must maintain the respect of not only their students, parents, but also their colleagues, and administrators and provide their students with the best education while demonstrating professionalism in all parts of their career. Professional teachers will interact with other teachers to collaborate and share teaching strategies, and discuss issues with the curriculum. They must focus on ways to improve the school community and create a learning environment that focuses on success for the students with their colleagues. Professional teacher do not gossip, argue, or engage in inappropriate behavior with their colleagues. Beginning teachers often seek the advice and support of administrators, or experienced teachers when challenged with difficult student or parent (Morehead, 1998). As a future professional teacher I understand the importance of maintaining a well-balanced classroom that will provide my students with the learning environment necessary to learn. My goal is not to be the friend, but be their teacher and help them reach their educational goals. I will work with the parents in providing their child with an education and not show favoritism or discriminate against students in any way. I believe every student has the ability to learn and succeed, and it is my job to see each student does just that. Getting to know how each of my students learns best and adapting the curriculum in order to fit their needs will allow learning to take
