Two years ago I was hired full time as a social studies teacher in the Enfield Public Schools system in Enfield, Connecticut. This culminating event came after years of higher education and paving my way as a substitute and long-term substitute teacher. I am now writing to you today to describe my current working environment and my intentions for applying to the off-campus Master’s program at the University of St. Joseph. I am looking to earn my M.A. in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction.
As previously mentioned I am employed by Enfield Public Schools at John F. Kennedy Middle School as a social studies teacher. I currently hold a Connecticut Initial Educator Certificate for History and Social Studies Grades 7-12.

It will be the opportunity to take what I learned during my undergraduate years and my years of teaching to another level. A level where I go beyond what is expected of the average educator. A level where I can create the best educational experiences for all students who walk through my classroom for the rest of my career. I have chosen Curriculum and Instruction as my specific program due to my work with curriculum previously, and a desire to constantly evolve and improve my abilities as an educator. Already in my young career, I have found myself tasked with writing curriculum for two courses that were aligned with both state and national standards. It was a task I enjoyed and thrived in as I took best practices from the classroom and infused them into a coherent curriculum. The next step would be to take what I learn in this program and bring that into my school community. Whether that be through updating and improving the existing curriculum, or by taking new instructional practices that not only improve my classroom but can be shared with my colleagues to improve theirs. I envision taking the latest in instructional practices and implementing them effectively for all students. By becoming a better educator through this program I can influence the lives of countless students. A dream that any and all teacher should possess, and one I undoubtedly
