Title Everyone is always thinking of the future; it’s always about how good or bad the future will be all the time. Well it might be time to start thinking about the past. Everyone on this world is different and unique in their own ways. That’s because everyone has a different past to match their unique character. To Tim Burton the past is the thing shapes and frames a person into the person that they are. Tim Burton uses scenes that look into a character’s past in his Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands to show that one’s past shapes their future and makes them who they are today. Tim Burton uses the flashback in order to show a character’s past and give background information on that character. For example in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory flashbacks are used to show Wonka’s bad relationship with his father and how his father was against Wonka eating candy even though Wonka loved candy. Despite his father’s disgust for candy Wonka still became the owner and inventor of the largest candy company in the world. Wonka did this not only for his love of …show more content…

For example in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory when the film flashes back to Wonka’s memory of his father low key lighting is used to show that Wonka remembered his father as a bad one. This affected Wonka’s future by causing him to be antisocial and solitary because he did not have a good father figure when he was growing up as a child. Also, in Edward Scissorhands, Edward grew up without a father figure. The scene that shows Edward’s father dying uses low key lighting to show that it was a sad time for Edward. Edward growing up without a father made him antisocial and solitary as well. So the low key lighting used in the flashbacks of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Edward Scissorhands is used to show sad past events and how those events made the character who they are
