Nicholas Flood Davin was a remarkable and brilliant man, who’s legacy will live on. He was distinguished by his erratic behavior through his newspaper, Regina Leader, and his years as a member of the House of Commons.1 After the years of Confederation, he was drawn to the brilliant and merciless life in the Western prairies, where he changed the way of life forever.2 Nicholas Flood Davin’s work to create the Regina Leader, and his research about Residential schools helped to change the future of education, and lives of the citizens of Regina. I would say that if he had mentioned any of the advantages that the cell phones have, it would only be to acknowledge the need for them in emergencies or the convenience of them. He could have expressed to the reader that
When thinking of black history month and how so many people fought for the rights of African American people, most of think of patriarchs like Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, but how many of us know of the feats done by people like Claudette Colvin or Noble Drew Ali? Many people such as them go unheard of during this time of year and yet, they have accomplished such high feats considering what they went through. Being a minister and a politician who denounced racism like Henry McNeal Turner or the protests that prisoned Soledad Brothers began have not been recognized for so long and its time to remind people of what they have done. Many feats have been done, such as leading a revolt against a police station that refused to do the law services to a black family in need or the case of going against imperial influence from Britain. You can only wonder who else went unnoticed.
The advancement of technology that our society has been privileged with, is starting to take over human’s emotions and replace them with those of a robot. When it comes to the discussion of technology, I have mixed feelings because, in my opinion, we do have a great tool in the palm of our hands. However, I also think human emotions and actions are starting to become robot-like. We need to be able to process emotions so that we can better our understanding of not only each other but also ourselves. I strongly think society needs to evict the virtual world and come back to the real world although it is safe to say I personally have a love-hate relationship with technology.
Richard Wright’s father (Nathan Wright) has impacted and shaped Richard by making Richard’s young life full of anger, sorrow, and sadness and his grown life full of skepticism, regret, and emptiness. This is shown when Richard briefly writes about his father. Wright recalls and describes what his father looks like to him as well as how their relationship was, “He was the lawgiver in our family and I never laughed in his presence. I used to lurk timidly in the kitchen doorway and watch his huge body sitting slumped at the table….He was quite fat and his bloated stomach always lapped over his belt. He was always a stranger to me, always somehow alien and remote”
We Americans now depend on most electronics to go about our lives. We use electronics to communicate, find information, socialize, and now to do homework. Back in the day before the United States were born people like Ben Franklin and others were creating these wonderful inventions to help easy the life of colonial people. The Middle Colonies needed a plow to fasten the process of farming crops. The virus smallpox started an epidemic and a vaccine would help lower the risk of people getting the disease.

In Nicholas Carr’s article, “How Smartphones Hijack Our Minds” (November 10, 2017) Carr discusses the implications of allowing our smartphones to have such a huge effect on our lives. Smartphones serve many purposes, and have created massive societal effects throughout the world despite being introduced roughly only two decades ago. One can converse with anyone in the world at any given moment, they can watch any television show they want, and they can receive alerts so they no longer have to put effort into remembering things themselves. However, with so much control over people’s own lives, one begins to wonder about the negative consequences of the smartphones themselves.
Have you ever thought about people fighting in a war? Not how that war ended up doing, but each individual fighting. Some people are drafted into a war, and forced to fight for the side their put into. But the hero, Nicholas Lopez fought willingly to save the country that he just moved to. My great-grandfather, was a hero because he fought in world war 2, after many other hardships in his life.
A ring comes at the bell; a step is heard upon the stair. The dropping eyelids lift, and the nostrils quiver with the eager thrill of the chase. “Come, Watson, come! The game is afoot!” (Smith).
In the course of history, human beings have created wonderful and effective things that have improved certain areas of society. Over time, the innovations of technology reached the corners of the earth to become part welcomed by many cultures. Previously, man did not need a computer, or any technological device. If humans in today society didn’t have their cell phones in an emergency they wouldn’t know whom to call. If you lost your cellphone and all of your contacts, it’s very possible you’d have no idea how to get in contact with anyone, let alone someone important to you.
