Those that disagree with the idea that climate change can have disastrous effects, support their assertion by using the fact that global climate change is not a new occurrence. While this is true, it is not the fact that global climate change is happening that scares people it is the rate at which it is occurring that elicits such a reaction. Ancient evidence of climate change can be “found in tree rings, ocean sediments, coral reefs, and layers of sedimentary rocks.”(NASA). It is within this evidence that scientists were able to conclude that the rate at which “current warming is occurring [is] roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming” (NASA). As a result of this animals and humans alike have not been allowed the time to adapt to the new climate conditions. A new climate can also result in the onset of new or more intense weather patterns that occur more frequently. This can be incredibly dangerous because areas, people, and animals affected by these conditions may be ill equipped to properly handle them resulting in mass destruction and the loss of life. With this being said many will try to use the expense of cleaner lifestyles as a reason to dissuade politicians from taking steps towards slowing humanities impact on the rate of global climate
