One trend that African Americans have developed that best relates to chapter two is the trend to get incarcerated. Incarceration best relates to chapter 2 because of one main statement, “Then there are those who wait to have someone force growth on them. They permit the influences to drive them to prison or drug treatment programs, mental hospitals, or some type of religious cult . . . but as soon as they must take responsibility for their lives they find a way to get “re-canned” (p. 17-18). According to, WHO, “If current trends continue, 1 of every 3 African American males born today can expect to go to prison in his lifetime, as can 1 of every 6 Latino males, compared to 1 in 17 White males” (p.88).
