(clarification statement):In harper lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird the effects of racism and poverty are very apparent. In the poor community and the rich community. the white and the black community, these elements are still there. (thesis statement):This novel strongly portrays racism, poverty, and gender discrimination.

(black)In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird racism is a strong and very visible thing. It is portrayed through the way they speak, the way they act, and how they view each other. (blue)in the novel racism is shown when bob ewell gets up on the stand and says. (red) “ I knowed who it was, all right, lived down yonder in that nigger-nest”(lee 234).
