One of the main concerns is the show's effects on younger minds, leading to a positive view of gambling. Studies have shown that adolescents are still in the process of development, and the risk-taking and reward-seeking behavior associated with gambling can have an impact on their future. During the early episodes of Squid Game, we are shown an insight into the reasons that compel the main characters to participate in the games. Gu-Hun, the main character, is portrayed as a compulsive gambler whose addiction has had severe consequences on his life. His actions have led him to steal from his own grandmother, and he even surrendered his basic rights to loan sharks. Gu-Hun is currently facing unemployment, which is preventing him from providing for his daughter. As a result and other factors, his ex-wife and their daughter are planning to relocate to America. If Gu-Hun were able to become financially stable and support his child, custody laws would prevent the mother from moving away.
