Egyptian Gods: I-Net Research Assignment 20 Marks Total Use the net to research and write a short/informative blurb on the following gods. Point form is acceptable (2 Marks per god). Amen: Amen was considered one of the most powerful gods in ancient Egypt, even called “king of Gods”. Even though Amen’s name has many different spellings, his name still means “Hidden One, Mysterious of Form”. He is often depicted as a man wearing a double plumed crown, but has also been depicted as several animals (ie. a ram, a frog and a goose). These various depictions are because his true identity is not to be revealed. He is the god of the dead and dying, and considered the protector of the dead. Egyptians revered Anubis as they believed that he lead the deceased to the Hall of Judgment. Anubis helped embalm Osiris after he was killed by Set, as a result, Anubis is closely connected to the process of mummification and often thought to watch over the dead as they are mummified. Geb: Geb is the god of earth. He is the husband and sky goddess, Nut and the father of Osiris, Isis, Nephthys and Set. Geb is often depicted as a bearded man with a goose upon his head and holding an ankh (a symbol of life). He is also depicted as reclining beneath the sky goddess, Nut. Egyptians believed that earthquakes was Geb’s laughing. Isis: Isis is the goddess of fertility, magic and motherhood. She is the wife of Osiris and mother of Horus. In her depictions, she may been seen as a woman wearing a headdress in the shape of a throne above her head, or a woman with a pair of cow horns with a sun disk in the middle above her head. He held up the sky goddess, Nut, so that the earth and the sky were separated. Shu is the husband (and brother) of Tefnut (goddess of dew and rain) and the father of Nut and Geb.
