On October fourteenth of 1890, a new hero, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was born in Denison, Texas (Marc Frey, 2013). Although Eisenhower was born in Texas, he grew up a poor young boy in Abilene, Kansas. As a little boy, he dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but little did he know, bigger things were coming his way. After graduating high school, Eisenhower attended school at West Point, which started his love for the military (Marc Frey). At the age of 25, Eisenhower graduated from West Point. One being the Interstate Highway Act in 1956 (Nell Fuqua, 2003). This act provided for a 41,000 mile interstate highway system. It is the single largest public works program in American History (Nell Fuqua). Eisenhower also ended the Korean War by negotiating a cease-fire in which Korea was divided at the 38th parallel. One of the last things he accomplished was building the St. Lawerence Seaway in partnership with Canada (Nell Fuqua). He also ended the Korean War and set forth a spirit of cooperation (Marc Frey, 2013). Although it is true that Eisenhower was a great President, just like all the others, he had his failures. One of which was allowing corporations to use the toxic chemical DOT, resulting in the poisoning of people and wildlife (Nell Fuqua, 2003). He also did not back up Supreme Court's ruling to desegregate schools (Nell Fuqua). Eisenhower did many intresting and humurous things in office. One of them being, Eisenhower was the first persident to hold a televised news conference on January 19, 1955 (Marc Frey, 2013). He was also the first to be telivised in color on June 6, 1955 (Marc Frey).
