General Santa Anna, the Napoleon of the west experienced his Waterloo to the revengeful Texas cries of the "Remember the Alamo!” "Remember Goliad!” (McKeehan, n.d.). Santa Anna believed the Texans were demoralized following the Alamo and Goliad and victory would be easily attained. He divided his forces in a three-pronged attack to crush the Texan rebellion: one to capture the Texan Government in Galveston, a second to secure his logistics, and the third in pursuit of Sam Houston which he commanded.

The Latin American revolution as well as the Haitian revolution were led to gain independence from the colonial power of France, Spain, and Portugal. The Latin American revolution led by Simon Bolivar and the Haitian Revolution have both similarities and differences as they both started due to the want for political, economic and social changes. Mexico and Cuba underwent major revolutions led by rebels who opposed their current presidents. The revolutionaries in both countries were mainly concerned with the industrialization and modernization that was occurring within their countries. The uprisings resulted in the countries shared beliefs against foreign imperialism, against elites having so much control on their counties and push for land reforms. In the long run Mexico faired better after their revolution than Cuba. Cuba still experiences hostile tensions with the U.S. today and still practices rationing.

Comparing Miami and New York culture is like comparing oranges and apples. Both has been highly influenced by different cultures, and both have a strong diverse heritage. Miami is well known by having Cuban community influence. In Miami’s streets many people speak Spanish, it 's loud music and the smell of the delicious Cuban food will make you fall in love with the culture and magic of this city. Contrary to New York, Asia and Puerto Rico has marked its community.
Two Worlds, One Girl There are many different cultures around the world, but you never really know what is like being between two different cultures, until you are experiencing it yourself. While growing up, I had the privilege and misfortune of becoming familiar with two different cultures: my family’s culture, from their birth country, Guatemala, and the culture of the United States of America. I say misfortune not because it was a disaster, catastrophe, or bad luck; I say it because sometimes you get so used to being in one culture that you start to forget about your family’s origin. Sometimes you even like something in one culture better than the other, and you feel guilty for having a preference.
“Bienvenidos a El Salvador,” the flight attendant announced over the intercom. I looked towards the windows and enjoyed the breathtaking scenery. I could see the long fields, the beautiful hills and valleys, and the volcanoes. The palm trees were bright green and the sky was filled with color. The land seemed to be filled with life.
Throughout time, the concept of “democracy” has been misunderstood and misused by the majority of governments around the world. In the Ecuadorian case, despite suffering innumerable dictatorships in command of several presidents such as José Maria Velasco Ibarra or Guillermo Rodríguez Lara, democratic ideas have prevailed and continue to evolve through the history and through the time. In fact, nowadays democracy is the principal political system in this country, in which the notion of popular sovereignty can be recognized. However, it is not clear what kind of democracy the Republic of Ecuador has. So, in order to clarify what was said before, it will be taken into consideration: (1) the definition of democracy according to three important authors, (2) the principal characteristics of a democracy and the two main types of democracy: (3) direct and (4) representative.
