When you go to a bookstore and look into the Teen/Young Readers section, you’ve probably seen a novel about a dystopian society. This is a very popular genre today, and ranging from Marie Lu’s Legend to Neal Shusterman’s Unwind, there are hundreds of books about less-than perfect societies. Of course, dystopian novels aren’t just written in modern times. Ray Bradbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, was written in 1953 and features a society in which books are illegal. Ironic, right? Reading about a place where you’re not allowed to read. The civilization in this novel sees books as irrelevant objects that don’t make any sense and cause trouble and sadness by making people think about things they don’t want to think about.
