Night is a memoir written by Elie Wiesel that has to do with his experiences as a young Jewish boy during the holocaust. This reflection deals with connections the memoir Night has with WWll, and the Holocaust. I will be connecting Hitler's youth with the memoir. Hitlers youth was an organization that took and prepared young boys for war. The Nazis tried to indoctrinate them with Nazi ideology, brainwashing the German youth. They wanted to take away all social structures and traditions. All of the youth throughout Germany sang the same Nazi songs, wore the same uniforms, and participated in similar activities. The members had to attend meetings and events regularly. There was interference with church and school, because they had so many meetings and events. The soilders knew that they had to slowly let the Jews get used to their presence and what they are doing so that they wouldn’t be as disturbed. The soldiers were very kind to the Jews and one of them even bought a box of chocolates for a woman that he was staying with. Also when they were all loaded into train cars to be transported to Auschwitz the German officer told them that "If anyone goes missing, you will all be shot, like dogs." This shows how one can become brainwashed and not even think about how bad it is to kill all of them innocent people. The main connection that I have seen was how both the Jews and the German's mental state was affected. Elie had so little resources and had been treated like an animal for so long that he started thinking like an animal and only cared about bread and soup.
