Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Gloria Steinem both fought for equality for women in a time where men were always seen as superior. Stanton gave many speeches and moved towards not just the women's right to vote, but African Americans rights as well. Steinem wrote many books and journalistic pieces which helped her fight for equality for all women. While the two were both upstanders and fought for the rights of others, they still had many differences. For example, Stanton is known for being in the first wave of the feminist movement. The first wave is when women were fighting to get the right to vote. Steinem, however, was a part of the second wave, where women were trying to get equal pay and equal employment. These two women are both known around the globe as activists. Stanton is primarily known for helping women get the right to vote. One of her many accomplishments was becoming the President and leader of the National Woman Suffrage Association. While she did focus a lot on getting voting rights for women and African Americans alike, she did a lot of work in other areas. She tried to help the parental rights of women progress. On the other hand, Steinem focuses on other issues because Stanton was successful in her quest to get us the right to vote. Steinem’s finds focus on not one specific issue. She works toward getting to a general and stable equality. She said: “A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle”. This shows you that she was adamant about the fact that women don’t need men to be successful. An example of something that she would speak about other than women’s rights is Transgender rights. They are both talented and impactful writers. While they both persuaded people to see their points of view, they wrote different types of pieces. Stanton wrote many speeches and addresses on topics such as slavery, women’s rights, African American rights, and so on. Her most recognized address is the one that took place at Seneca Falls. While Stanton wrote pieces to directly deliver to the public, Steinem writes more articles for newspapers, as she is primarily a journalist. One of her more famous articles is A Bunny’s Tale, which she wrote while she was working undercover as a Playboy bunny.
