Elizabeth Proctor “The Crucible ” is written by Arthur Miller (1915-2005), for his play during Salem, Massachusetts, witchcraft trial of 1960s. This is a dramatic story according to the acts while reading through the whole play. This shows the testimony of the people in town who involve in the witchcraft and get accused to death. However, this play has a character names Elizabeth Proctor. She is John Proctor’s wife who is known as a cold personality in the beginning of the story. But in the acts, she shows many side of her through the middle to the end of the play. And, she is an honest person who never tells a lie. But, she does speak out the lie in the court and it leads to the death of her husband. Since the beginning, she is a cold and strong woman in the family who willing to protect her family from breaking a part. Elizabeth loves and trusts her husband when she says “I do not judge you. As a woman, she cannot get ashamed Gieng 2 because she does not have the ability to keep her husband with her. She is depressed at what happening to her situation. So, she tells John to confess at the court that he is having affair with Abigail. When Elizabeth already fired Abigail, Abigail starts making dissembles about the witchcraft trail. All the blames that Abigail makes point at Elizabeth to make Elizabeth go to jail, so she could have John. At this moment, Elizabeth shows her strength when dealing problem to protect her children from being scared because of the trial. “ I will fear nothing. Tell the children I have gone to visit someone sick” (page 173). This time is when she is getting accused because of cursing Abigail from the poppet with needles on it that has found in Proctor’s house. At first, Elizabeth is frightened.
