Ella Baker and the Civil Rights Movement Ella Baker was a Civil Rights Activist and fought for a lot of women rights but unlike a lot of other Activists she has never been to jail. Baker was committed to economic justice for all people and once stated “People cannot be free until there is enough work in this land to give everybody a job” (EllaBakerCenter.org). She was in many organizations where they would talk about what they could change and what they could make different for both black and white people. In 1930 she joined an organization called “Young Negroes Cooperative League” the whole point of the organization was to help “develop black economic power through collective planning” (EllaBakerCenter.org). She continued to fight for social justice in other ways so she joined TWWA (PebbleGo). A lot of people called her “Mother of the Civil Rights Movements.” She fought for Voting rights, Integration, and financial freedom etc. “Baker began her involvement with the NAACP in 1940. She worked as a secretary and then served as director of branches from 1943 until 1946.”. She then was inspired by the bus boycotts to then make organizations to raise money for the rights for black people. I think she was very thoughtful to fight for other people's lives and to fight against segregation. A lot of people looked up to her. She was a tough woman and a lot of people have said that and you can tell just by her quotes and the way she has moved racism around and tried to make it stop. She fought for everyone and put an impact on a lot of people's lives especially women because a lot of the women back then stayed home and would help with the children and Ella Baker fought for women's rights including her own. Even though there is still racism today a lot of people including Ella Baker fought to stop it and it made it a lot better. Ella Baker helped stop racism and ended up helping a lot of other people live their life. Ella Baker brought up a lot of people's lives and even her own. Sadly in 1986 she passed away in her sleep on her 83rd birthday. She helped stop racism and because she did that she is now celebrated during black history month. It is the little things you do that can get you in high
