We were woken up early the moon was in the middle of the night 's sky the winter 's air was crisp. All was still all was well except us creeping through the streets of our town. We wanted to be at the docks before anyone else, we were done with the poverty world war one had brought with it. We arrived at the docks with hope and in abundance in our eyes, But were met with realization everyone was already at the dock. The smell was putrid,and we were met with many haggard faces we also were in third class to top it all off. We had spent our last bit of currency buying the tickets for this boat the Dominion, and we weren 't going to throw it all away just because of these awful conditions. The boat trip was tolling on us, but we prevailed through all of the hardships. A good portion of the rest of the other passengers made it, yet some kind of disease has claimed the lives of some of the people here. We are all terrified, but thrilled in a big bundle of emotions, this will be the most exciting moments of my life passing through Ellis island. Mother was just going up to the top deck to get some fresh air, then she came tearing through halls yelling “I see America!” After that a huge mass of passengers ran up to the top deck, They were greeted by the statue of liberty welcoming them in with open hands. There were a number of loud cheers for the ending of an intense trip to a new and unfamiliar land to start a new beginning, To reach the gold on the other side of the rainbow. The German immigrant told me I might be reunited with my family at the kissing post which was at the end of the immigration process. The first part was waiting in line for the medical exam I tried to look normal, Because I had been told you have less of a chance of being deported if I looked perfectly health, which I was but someone else had looked fine but they got a chalk mark anyway. I was trembling with fear but I caught myself before the inspector came by after waiting a five hours standing in the hot line I had worked up a bit of an appetite. I reached the end of the line they did some odd inspections on my mouth and hands, And then told me to head to get some stew from the mess hall. I picked up a bowl and got in line for the stew. I picked it up and took it to a table crowded with people and realized I had gotten past one of the most important parts of the journey. Next I was told to go up the stairway to speak with an official who would ask me questions, after waiting a long time to get up the stairs. I was asked a collage of strange and unrelated questions I answered all of the questions truthfully and I was admitted to leave. I made it through and out to the kissing post families were reuniting though had no one to go to and had to leave sadness heavy in their eyes. Fear welled up in me, would I lose my family and live
