Gary Tillery uses copious amounts of researched information to back up his claims throughout the bibliography. He does this by being able to tie in very specific stories and quotes from drawn fine events. “Elvis’ earliest memory was of sitting in his mother’s lap during the church service… mimicked the chorus and followed the melody (Tillery pg. 8).” I agree that he has the information to support his affirmations also because of the detail he uses in his speech.

Elvis Aron Presley was born as a poor boy, but later became known as the ‘King of Rock n’ Roll’. His passion for music had made others fall in love with the genre of music he created. Presley’s family supported him through everything and made a significant effort to help make him be the rock legend that he is today. Even though Presley was not as intelligent at school, he had a passion for the arts, by singing, playing instruments, and later acting.

Johnny Cash’s sound was formed from his influences with Gospel, Blues, Country, and Rock. Johnny Cash was a hard worker when he was growing up, and so I would expect him to work hard with his music career. Johnny Cash was influenced musically by his mother who sang hymns, and folk songs.

They both had a major impact on society during the time because Rock and roll was new and many people didn’t know what to think. Both singers were in their 20’s when they started really becoming popular releasing hits throughout America. Both of the singers first major hits were only one year apart.

He was an eager American who participated in the United States army and even expressed his desire to become a federal agent to President Nixon.

While a rural blues artist may have utilised music as a tool to address the hardships they faced in life, Elvis rarely received any songwriting credits for the music he recorded. Consequently, he is unlikely to have had the same emotional attachment to his work that an artist like Muddy Waters would have done to his. Presley’s rebranding into a more mainstream artist after 1961 only reaffirms this idea that he cared little about his integrity as a rock and roll artist, and was content to diversify into ballads and acting roles if it meant more fame and money. Nevertheless, I do not believe that this necessarily invalidates Elvis 's status as one of the greatest performers of all

Presley impacted his fans and other musicians of his time, by the way he dressed and his way of singing created a new genre of music. His fans supported him throughout his journey, he was young and different, he was paving his way to fame. Elvis Presley changed the 1950’s forever, with his different style of music and clothing.

Long before Rock n Roll was created or even thought of, the musical world was divided over petty differences. One of the many reasons why music was divided was the heavy racism that plagued the United States since the end of slavery. Another reason why music was divided was the fact of a huge generation gap, or difference between parent and child. These are some of the challenges that Elvis faced.

First of all, in the 1950’s Elvis Presley and his music started the era of the generation gap between teenagers and their parents, an era which is still going on today. With Elvis being very young, attractive and his new type of music and dancing, teenage girls fell head over heels for the young star. Most parents though, did not feel the same way about Presley. He was often described a vulgar and many accused him of corrupting the youth.
