When Elvis Presley Died Neva English was twenty-three years old when Elvis passed away. Neva recalls being in the bathtub when she was told, “I was in the tub enjoying a lovely book when my husband came to tell me that Elvis had passed on and I couldn't believe it, it didn't seem real at the time”. Elvis Presley died in the afternoon on August 16th 1997 in Memphis Tennessee in Graceland. “He was rushed to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, pronounced dead, then shipped to the morgue and autopsied the same afternoon”(Rodgers 1). Elvis’ cause of death was determined as a heart attack. When asked “Who do you think was affect the most?”, Neva responded, “The female population took the news the hardest in my opinion. The whole female population was in love with Elvis, there was a lot of crying when everyone found out. They put it on tv”.
