According to Elvis Presley “Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away.”

According to a recent survey, which I conducted with 13 Crane High School students and faculty, most people agree that Elvis Presley was the greatest of his time. The results were that 92-percent agreed that Elvis was the greatest artist of his time. 8-percent disagreed that he was the best. Due to his interest in black music he was criticized. A reporter by the name of of Ackerman wrote that they kept getting calls from two Nashville producers requesting for them to stop allowing his records to be on the best-selling country charts because they believed he played black music. In 1956 another white reporter from Tupelo, Mississippi who wrote for The Charlotte Observer said Elvis said he used to listen to Arthur Crudup. Arthur Crudup was a blues singer who inspired “That’s All Right,” which was Elvis’ first record. Elvis stated he and Crudup used to “bang his box the way I do now, and I said if I ever got to the place where I could feel all old Arthur felt, I’d be a music man like nobody ever saw.” When Elvis shared thoughts like that he was admired in the black community in his early years of stardem. Because he didnt care what people said in his society, people assumed he was just low class or didn't have any class at all. He was known as the “race man” by two newspapers in Memphis, The Memphis World and The Tri-State Defender because they liked how he was different and wasnt mainstream. Elvis began a week of recording sessions in the den at Graceland and RCA brings in recording equipment. Elvis begins his last concert tour, which were in the cities of Cincinnati, Rapid City and Indianapolis. His closest friends were always there but for some reason elvis got rid of them and fired them. He changed from the beginning of his career he was generous and caring. Elvis was not the same person anymore sometimes he would be in a good mood and tell everybody hello other days he wouldn't go out at all(7). The morning of August 16, 1977, Presley died of heart failure when he was 42. It was later established that his death was caused by prescription drug use. Presley was buried on the property of his well known mansion, Graceland, near the gravesites of his parents and his grandmother. Throughout his successful career, Presley helped make rock 'n' roll music in America become popular(8). He also won Grammy Awards for his gospel music. A musical force, Presley had 18 No. 1 singles, including "Good Luck Charm," "Don't Be Cruel"and "Suspicious Minds," as well as gold and platinum albums. He was one of the first performers to go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986). Elvis has also been known for his contributions to several musical genres, mostly rock, country and gospel. In 1998, Presley was also put into the Country Music Hall of Fame; years later, he was put into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
