Elvis Presley’s Rise to Fame
“The King of Rock n Roll,” “The Hillbilly Cat,” “Mr. Hound-Dog.” Do any of these nicknames sound familiar? If you guessed Elvis Presley, then you are correct! Elvis Presley, was one of the most famous people in the world, and because of his talents, his greatness will live on forever. Elvis was an American singer who gained fame because of his unique musical style. As Mississippians, we are proud to claim Elvis as one of our own since he was born in Tupelo, Mississippi. Elvis Presley was always traveling and on tour. Elvis has performed in more than 600 shows. He was losing energy and sleep and needed to do something to keep his career going. Elvis started using drugs to help him perform better. The drugs were used to keep up his energy before a show and then used again to sleep at night. Elvis was known for his dancing and fun performances. Elvis overdosed on drugs and later died because of it. Elvis was one of the most famous people in the world, and following his death, his fame continued on as he is still loved by millions today. When he died the world was shocked and did not know what to do. Drugs completely took over his life and he could not function without them. Elvis’ family was the one thing in his life that he could depend on and trust. When Elvis’ mom died he went into a depression. Many believe this eventually contributed to his poor health and drug use. He consumed an excessive amount of alcohol, and he did not want to see anyone. His mom died from a heart attack and Elvis was just in time to see her before she passed. Another factor that is believed to cause Elvis’ downfall was his divorce from Pricilla. They eventually divorced because Elvis would continue to cheat on her even though they were married. Pricilla had enough of this, and they split up.
