One man who was considered one of the pioneers for rock and roll was Elvis Presley. Elvis changed the way people looked at the idea of rock and roll. Most of these children were a result of the baby boom which a happened just after world war 2.You had to grow up pretty fast and find a job which didn’t leave space for the teenage era. The perception on the average American was very different to what it is now because men were expected to go out and work whilst the women were expected to stay home cook, clean, and look after the kids. This was shown in the American Television show Leave it to Beaver where it says a woman’s place is in the home. When rock and roll started to emerge towards the mid-50s Elvis Presley was one of the first rock and roll artists to appear on Television with his own unique dancing nobody has really seen before and it was broadcasted to the public on American television. The public were shocked at how a white man could dance and shake his hips because it was only mainly the black community who danced like that. Rock and roll was an escape from all of life for teenagers who rebelled against the idea of just being a child then going to work to become an adult. More people were curious about rock and roll and there for starting listening to it and so there popularity of it grew greatly. One of Elvis first singles titled “that’s alright” which he brought out in 1954 was one of the first of its kind of rhythm and blues. Elvis changed the way people thought about white men dancing to blues and rhythm and more people started to watch and tune in to his erotic personality and dancing.
