Raised in northwest Mississippi, I grew up only a few minutes from Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is a very historic place and is known nationwide for many things such as the rich background of music. Many famous musicians and singers were born and raised in the great city. Arguably the most famous musician/singer of them all was Elvis Aaron Presley, The King of Rock ’n’ Roll. Elvis was born in Tupelo, Mississippi to Vernon and Gladys Presley and later moved to Memphis in 1948. On his 11th birthday, Elvis received his first guitar as a gift from his mother. Young Elvis immediately fell in love with music. He was greatly influenced by the pop and country music of that time. After hours of work they finally took a break. During the break everyone was minding their own business until Elvis surprised them all. He randomly stood up and started singing ‘That’s All Right, Mama’ while dancing. Everyone was immediately impressed and Sam and Bill joined him. Later that night they successfully cut a record that would change their lives forever. Not even a year later Elvis produced his first number 1 hit called “Heartbreak Hotel” and number 1 album, Elvis Presley. Elvis’s fame grew rapidly and he was appearing on TV shows and even starred in movies such as Love Me Teacher. However, his fame came to a halt when he was drafted into the army in 1957. He was stationed in Germany for about a year and half until he was granted permission to come home because his mother died. He returned to Germany and found the love of his life, Priscilla Beaulieu. They returned back to American and married in 1967 and had a daughter named Lisa Marie. However, Elvis’s life started to slowly go downhill. He and Priscilla got a divorce in 1973 and she gained custody of Lisa. Elvis started to abuse drugs heavily and was hospitalized for drug related health
