Emergency Medical Technician People’s lives can often depend on the competent care given in a time of demand. Emergency medical technicians provide different types of vital care that help people in need. EMTs help the communities they work in be better environments, while also giving the necessary medical attention to the public in any situation. To work as an emergency medical technician, you must have a high school diploma or GED. A certification is also required, and can take anywhere from one to four years. There are three different levels of emergency medical technicians you can earn certifications for. In order to become a EMT or Paramedic, there is a three part series of training before reaching actual paramedic status.These include EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic training. The minimum level of training required to apply for a job and work in this field is EMT-Basic. Graduates of the programs must pass a written and practical examination administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians or their state licensure agency. From every small town to the largest city, these professionals are needed everywhere, all of the country, as long as people living there. Most career emergency medical technicians work in metropolitan areas, and more volunteer EMTs are found in rural, small town or city areas.
