A common fact known to man is that everyone is different; no two people are identical in looks, style or interests. Everyone is unique and a good example of this is in Emerson’s poem called “fate”. Emerson’s writing is extremely unique and unlike any other. His writing is so strong it influence other famous writers like Thoreau’s life and Whitman’s style to be more naturalistic and separate from society. Emerson was seen as one of the lead of individualism a critic of the pressures of society. Emerson over time gradually moved farther away from the social and religious beliefs of his contemporaries. In society people care about how other dress and how nice their items are. “Whether your jewel be of pure water, A rose diamond or a white,— But whether it dazzle me with light. “I loafe and invite my soul, I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass" (songofmyself). This confused many people and many despised him for it; however that wasn’t the only thing he did that made society mad. Whitman, like Emerson, was also naturalistic and separate from society. “The Female equally with the Male I sing"(One 's Self I Sing). Whitman’s poem “One’s Self I Sing ”was written before the 19th amendment hadn 't been created yet so women were not equal to men. When Whitman said this people was bewildered. Emerson, Thoreau and Whitman all have the same views. The rout of this came from Emerson’s though, which affected Thoreau’s views on life and Whitman’s writing style. They were separated from society because of their views and were all naturalistic. Even though they were frowned upon during their life they have become well-liked and famous writers. Everyone has different views and styles; but it’s a positive thing because without diversity the world wouldn’t be the way it is
