Emily Carr was born December 13, 1871 in Victoria, British Columbia. After her parents died she moved to San Francisco in 1890 to study art, then in 1899, she travelled to England for more studying and Paris, she attended school while in Europe and did some not famous sketches and drawings. A couple years later she moved permanently back to British Columbia to find her muse of the native culture. Some of her work showed the British Columbian forest, Canadian aboriginal culture, and native landscape. To help with her influence she lived with the Native Americans for some time to help with research. She was also a member of the Group of Seven. Emily Carr, died March 2, 1945 in Victoria, British Columbia. The painting I chose to research, is called, Totem Walk at Sitka by the Canadian Artist Emily Carr. This painting was completed in 1907. The Totem Walk at Sitka was made using watercolors on paper. The painting was one of Carr’s first known and published works. I chose the artwork because it looked interesting and I liked it because it also looks very pretty. It reminds me of The Wizard of Oz, the movie because it looks like the yellow brick road and reminds me of how Dorothy and her gang took the yellow brick road to the Emerald City.
