Emily Dickinson was a well-known poet with her own taste and style. Her poetry was written straight from her heart and her life experiences. Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts on December 10, 1830. She died in Amherst on May 15, 1886 at the age of fifty-six (Bio). Dickinson’s father and grandfather were heavily invested in Amherst College and politics, economics, and social issues (Emily Dickinson at Amherst). She withdrew herself from this lifestyle and picked her own lifestyle carefully and with her own taste. The Dickinson name was well-known, but she did not care to be in the shadow of her father. Emily Dickinson attended Amherst Academy, [however] she left in 1848 for unknown reasons (Bio). Research led people to believe it was due to her emotional state. The intellectual life of Amherst college had an influence on Emily Dickinson and her entire family. Dickinson was the main caregiver for their sick mother until her death in 1882 (Bio). That factor alone can emotionally and mentally take a toll on the human body and mind, but Dickinson relieved her stress within her poetry. She was very young with a responsibility larger than that of most adults. Dickinson suffered from conditions such as agoraphobia, depression, and anxiety; making it hard for her to be productive at all times
