Emily Dickinson is most well-known, innovative and ubiquitous American poet. The reason why I chose this poem is that she always had a premonition of death and she carefully observes about death and express human’s mentality for the death very well. When I read this poem, I have reminded my grandmother’s death. She just passed away few months ago, so I could more comprehend and sympathize this poem. Dickinson’s poem talks about death again and again, and it is not quite the same in any poem. I didn’t know what Axolotl, but one of our group member told us that axolotl is fish which is in the picture in our text book. After see how axolotl looks like, I got interested about the story of this short novel. The story of “Axolotl” is that an unnamed man who is living in paris becomes fascinated by axolotl, an animal that he observes in the aquarium. In spite of its association with the everyday, the axolotl gradually assumes a mysterious quality as the narrator’s attraction with the animal intensifies. He goes the exhibit everyday and feels increasing affinity between the axolotl and himself. His explanation of the axolotl is realistic, however he gives some eerie details such as “ the creatures have humanlike nails and eyes with unfathomable depth” (658). This story is the magical realism fact that the man turns into an axolotl at the end of this story. The point of the story is trying to show that the magical realism is what happens to a human obsession when it reaches a certain and why they leave it alone after while.
