The purpose for characters in a story or novel is to create the plot. Characters are different in each story. There are many ways to categorize characters in a story they could be a protagonist or antagonist, dynamic or static, and round or flat. In A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner there are different types of characters, but the one I will be writing about is Emily Grierson. She seems to be a stubborn and stuck up person because her father. Her father spoiled her with anything she wants but he also thought no guy was good enough for her so he push them all away. This caused Emily not to have a husband and to live a lonely life. Emily is a round character because she found love at the end with Homer. The relationship she had with previous boyfriends were on again off again and was never clear among the town rumors. She was a woman with a kind heart who did not want the love of her life to disappear as all her previous boyfriends had done in the past. Her background explains a lot about why she did most of the things she did. In conclusion, Emily is the main character that had trouble in her past that cause her to be the way she is. She is also a protagonist and the antagonist in the story. She is both because of the things that happen to her and the things she has done to other people. Miss Emily is a static character because she doesn't change throughout the story. She stays the same and continues to be the person she always was. Last but not least, Emily is a round character because she everything she did had a motive behind it. Her motives were mainly because of her overprotective father.
