Marshall Mathers, more widely known as Eminem or Slim Shady to his fans, was born on October 17, 1972 in Saint Joseph, Missouri. He is one of the most famous rappers, record producers, and actors in the 21st century. Although he experiences fame and fortune now, his childhood was a different story. Eminem has had his fair share of struggles, but has overcome them with hard work and compassion.
Eminem is the son of Marshall Bruce Mathers III and Deborah Rae Nelson. They were both members of a band named Daddy Warbucks. They eventually got a divorce and Marshall Bruce Mathers III abandoned the family, which consists of four total kids, when Eminem was an infant. Eminem made many attempts to reconnect with his long lost father but was rejected each time. His mother seemed incapable of holding a job for more than a couple months and moved between Missouri and Michigan often, later settling in Michigan. Eminem recalls changing schools two to three times a year. Eminem’s relationship with his mother was constantly on thin ice. Later in his career he made a song about his mother accusing her of misusing prescription drugs and subjecting him to abuse. His mother denied all the accusations and filed a lawsuit against her son in 1999. The case was filed for $10 million but settled for $25,000.
