Emma by Jane Austen was published in 1815. Emma is one of Jane Austen classic novel where we are transported to Austen's time period. This timeless classic has been made into many adaptations. The most famous adaptation of Emma is Clueless (1995). This movie puts a modern twist on the classic. The protagonist of the story is Emma Woodhouse; a 21-year-old girl who was often seen as spirited, intellectual and a little bit spoiled and would never marries. The plot throughout this novel deals with romance, courtship, separation of gender and class, and the importance of good manners. The real focus of this novel however is the evolution of Emma. In the beginning Emma is often seen as selfish, self-indulge, shallow, clever and intelligent. Through the course of the novel she changes. By the end of the novel, Emma is considerate, giving, and caring. At first, the language was difficult to understand, but by the end of the novel I found it easy to understand the language of the novel. The plot of the book was entertaining, funny, and amusing. This helped to make this novel a page-turner. The characters that Jane Austin created in this novel were relatable and you felt a sense of the struggles that they were going through. Throughout the novel you started to grow attached to these characters and cared about what was going to happen to them. In addition, the characters motives were clouded from time to time, which creates a mysterious feel to it.
