When I finished the novel, reaching the scene when Milkman took flight, I was enraged. I had quickly read the book and, after going through the entirety of Milkman’s experience and journey, I was disappointed by the ridiculous open conclusion of the story, where Guitar went completely altered himself, betraying everything about the character that was introduced to me in the beginning of the novel. I had faced the aftermath of Emmett Till’s execution as well as the Seven Days and the only thing I ended up doing was flying. I was annoyed. However, I realize now what these things meant something.
