In the summer of 1955, 14-year-old Emmett Till from Chicago went to Money, Mississippi with his great uncle and his cousins. On the night of August 28th, 1955 Emmett Till, was brutally killed by two white men named Roy Bryant and his half sibling J.W. Milam. The men kilt Till based off the belief of him whistling or trying to flirt with Bryant’s wife, Carolyn when he went into the store that the family owned. Mrs. Bryant then had stormed off to the back upset and shaken up. A few days later the two men kidnapped Emmett from his Uncle Moses Wright’s home and tortured him and disfigured his body then dumped him into the river with a 75-pound cotton gin attached to his body. Mississippi wanted to do their own funeral and jury Emmett immediately, but his mother Mamie fought to get his body back and had her own funeral with an open casket. The two men responsible for Emmett’s death were acquitted on all accounts and later admitted to murdering the teen. This case just proves that racism is allowed in America, and is partially responsible for the thought of whites being the dominant race. Minorities are racially profiled more than white Americans because of the fear that minorities are violent, steal or they rape innocent people. For example Alton Sterling was selling cd’s in front of a corner store and the police pent him to the ground and shot him. What threat does selling cd’s pose to our community? While it is a known fact that every race has people who participate in those types of crimes, other people specifically believe that minorities are predominantly responsible for these type of crimes.
