Give your personal comment on the article as a conclusion of your article review. Reading, understanding, and applying facial expression are very interested. This article brings the reader to know about a guy who is really expert in facial expression. We can know how he works when he was a Sheriff in Los Angles Country and his experiences in patrol which always meet with the criminal issues there. And by reading it, I realized that it is important to learn how to read people’s thought just by looking at them to prevent ourselves from doing anything rashly and
This means that there can be an improved way to talk with our friends and family which is face to face than just texting them on your electronic
The advice or overall message I took from Liz Murray was to accept the things you can’t change and to work on the things you can change. This means to acknowledge the things that already happened, in good or in bad, and focus on where and what you can do in your existence. This relates to the book because Liz didn’t have a great foundation growing up, she used that as an excuse not to go to school. She faced many difficulties that she couldn’t change, like not being able to save or be there for her mom through her slow, long death to AIDs. but soon after the death of her mother she then met the right people who lead her down the right path.
I cannot imagine that the power of “like” and “share” will make the impossible be
The conspiracy theory of the “Smiliy Face murders” is a claim that an organized group of serial killers or a singular killer would drug unsuspecting victims at a bar or party which they would abduct, hold, and torture the victims before finally killing and dumping the bodies in the water. The term “smiley face” became entwined with this theory due to the discovery of graffiti depicting a smiley face near at least a dozen locations where speculated killers dumped bodies in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa. There are 45 victims all in the same demographics of male college students. Three main reasons supporting this murderous theory and keeping it alive are, smiley face graffiti near the location of victims creates speculation
In the last few weeks during my internship at Dillard’s, the managers have covered the topics of how the company creates and communicate its messages. They explained how emails, meetings, and documents help distribute information from corporate down to the employees and vice versa. I found that written communication is the most prominent form of communication at Dillard’s. The electronic mailing system through Dillard’s intranet is the primary means of delivering messages among employees. Corporate has standards, quotas, rules, sales and price adjustments that arises daily in this retail environment.

Within different cultures, members follow a set of strict rules that must be carried out properly when interacting with one another although they are not aware of these unspoken rules. One can become more aware of these actions when he steps out of the procedures set by his culture and behave opposite of what is expected in his culture. The act of behaving in an unexpected manner that is opposite of the norm to elicit a response is known as “Garfinkeling”, named after Harold Garfinkel (Agar, 1994, p.169). By Garfinkeling, I was able to demonstrate how eye contact and the lack of it can disrupt the sign that it carries of paying attention and also interrupt the symbolic system that takes place when asking for assistance. When Michael Agar (1994) speaks of a “sign”, he explains that it is made up of two parts, the “signifier” and the “signified”.
When texting or using any other type of social media that is online, all that is seen is a bunch of text bubbles with words in them. Yes, emojis will be seen, but that is pretty much it besides the rare photo. On a different not, talking in person allows all of these things to happen. While conversing with another person, if observant, facial and body language will become easy to “read”. While talking face-to-face, the other person can see whether the other partaker is mad, upset or just being sarcastic.
Wampole identifies the disease in an over-abundance of irony, she pinpoints the hipster archetype as its primary distributer, and recognizes the localities from which it is dispersed. Wampole calls the hipster a symptom of ironic living and not the affliction itself. With that being said, I believe, Wampole makes a claim of value, in which she’s firmly making a judgment that expresses the disapproval of irony. Wampole seems earnest. She appears to be actually tired of irony, and tired of those hipsters, and also concerned about what we’ve suffered because of it: lack of good conversations, face-to-face communication.
By definition, computer-mediated communication (CMC) is communication about or by means of computer technology (Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic, 2004). The transition of computers from highly specialized technology to personal possessions contributed to the increase in investigations relating to CMC (Thurlow, Lengel, & Tomic, 2004). The study of CMC has been widely applied, allowing for discussions of all forms of human communication via the means of a computer. Some of those disciplines through which CMC has been studied include psychology (Gackenbach & Ellerman, 1998; Kiesler, Siegel, & McGuire, 1984), politics (Dahlberg, 2001; Hacker & van Dijk, 2000), and education (Berge & Collins, 1995; McComb, 1994). In addition, CMC has also been widely studied
Social media and interpersonal communication: (this article is for communication studies students) Look around any restaurant and you are surprised to see that almost everybody is heading down on their mobile phones, sending messages or calling, updated face book statuses or tweeting while sharing food with other people at the same table (Keller). Social media has great effect on our communication and interaction abilities and it can be seen easily. It also effects our interpersonal communication. So what is meant by interpersonal communication (Keller)?
Eye contact also plays a vital role in effective communication. There are times when we experience words that come out of our mouth and the ways we communicate through our body language are totally different. In this kind of situation, the receiver has to determine whether to believe verbal or nonverbal message. Regularly the receiver would select the nonverbal as it is more natural and it truly displays the speaker’s true feeling and intention. The gestures such as the way we sit, how fast and how loud we talk and how much eye contact we make send strong messages to the receiver.
, this showcases the great importance of understanding this topic in order to have a clear communication process, since these can distort the meaning of the message. Although non-verbal expressions are present in every culture, their individual meanings and relevance are going to change from one to another, this is why it is important to not only recognize the overall value of this topic, but to study the different patterns of nonverbal communication from different cultures as well. Since we are studying to become international negotiators we have to be prepared to work in a multicultural environment, since it is very likely we will be working with people from other parts of the world. Understanding how others communicate and how we do it too and not to take everything at face value is primordial for us, since this will help us to minimize
