Emotional Ending Of The Giver By Lois Lowry

142 Words1 Pages
Lois Lowry’s The Giver has an emotional ending where the author points to the protagonist, Jonas, dying. Although Jonas doesn't survive the end, the author helps the reader believe that it was still a happy ending. In the quote, “Jonas felt himself losing consciousness and with his whole being willed himself to stay upright atop the sled, clutching Gabriel, keeping him safe,” the author states in the beginning, that Jonas begins to hallucinating, losing consciousness, and is passing away. Secondly, He is so content on protecting Gabriel, he might start to hear music. The quote “But perhaps it was only an echo,” suggests that Jonas is hearing things because the author clearly states that the music fades away and Jonas is hearing echoes.
