For me, Justine is the biggest victim so far. Considering her background and the hardship she went through at an early age and being neglected by her family was indeed a tragic scenario; even though she felt love and comfort in the Frankenstein 's home. What 's really sad was when she was accused of killing William and was executed. Apparently, Victor knew his brother was killed by the monster, yet still he couldn 't do anything to save the girl 's life because he was scared and don 't want people to know he had created an awful
Throughout the book Frankenstein, Mary Shelly uses nature imagery to show the character’s emotions and mood. Mary Shelley often uses nature and the character’s surroundings to reflect the character’s mood. In chapter 11, the monster is alone during the winter, having to survive in this unfamiliar world he is cold and frightened especially during the cold winter nights. “It was dark when I awoke; I felt cold also, and half frightened, as it were, instinctively, finding myself so desolate.” (Shelly, 105)
Victor Frankenstein is the monster because of his selfishness. He allowed Justine to die innocently when he could have said something and saved her. " A thousand times rather would I confessed myself guilty of the crime ascribed to Justine but such ravings would accuse me of being a madman”. This speaks of not just selfishness, but the egocentrism of this character. He rather let someone close die than be called a madman.
Thus the reason he states that the trial is a “wretched mockery of justice.” The death of both William and Justine then lie on Victor Frankenstein’s shoulders. It is tragedies like William’s murder, Justine’s execution, and Elizabeth’s murder that force Victor Frankenstein to ponder the consequences of creating his monster. When Frankenstein has to face these consequences, we can see that he becomes a remorseful and miserable
In life there are many evils that will try to defeat a person but the key to living a happy, fulfilling life is learning to have empathy for others who are facing their own evils. Empathy is hard to have if a person has not endured any real struggles in their life. Being able to know firsthand how it feels to go through difficulties helps create a level of empathy that leads to compassion for one another. Victor Frankenstein is a prime example of someone who has faced evils in their own life but in the end did not find compassion for others, instead he found his own hell. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Victor’s lack of empathy opens the door into his world of selfishness, cruelty, and unhappiness.

He “wandered like an evil spirit” (Shelley 103) as he was unable to conceive peace. This state of mind preyed upon [his] health” (Shelley 103) as he was unable to cope with the present events and his guilt, this marks the mood at his part of the novel as that of despair and of regret. . Victor is then taken to Belrive in order to find peace, there he pondered about the outcome caused by his actions.
Victor Frankenstein, is at fault for the creature’s actions. Victor was looking for some honor and triumph, but when he accomplished his experiment, not only did it bring terror to Victor, but to the whole world. The monster never learned right from wrong and was never raised correctly, his first moment of life, all he experienced was the fear in Victor's emotion, and was abandoned right from the start. Victor selfishly isolated himself from society and ran away from his responsibilities which caused destruction to the people Victor cared for and loved deeply. The creature was known as a monster and was doomed due to his appearance.
The gothic fiction novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley centralizes on humanity and the qualifications that make someone human. The content of the novel Frankenstein depicts a monster displaying human traits that his creator Victor does not possess: empathy, a need for companionship, and a will to learn and fit in. Throughout the novel Shelley emphasizes empathy as a critical humanistic trait. The monster displays his ability to empathize with people even though they are strangers. On the other hand Victor, fails to show empathy throughout the novel even when it relates to his own family and friends.
From the dawn of time to the present day, humanity has built its philosophy based on the individual. The lack of empathy has been seen as the common root when pinpointing what causes one to act selfishly. Psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky believes "Selfish behavior is not only immortal, but it is also bad for your psychological well-being" ("Psychology Today"). Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, tells the tale of Victor Frankenstein creating a hazardous "monster" who is painted as a scapegoat for the town's troubles. However, lurking in the shadows is a potential prospect whose selfish demeanor causes many individuals' downfall.
This much is true for Victor’s failure to take responsibility for not only teaching his creation about life but also failure to take responsibility for the actions of his creation. “Frankenstein! You belong then to my enemy… you shall be my first victim” (153). Victor’s knows that he is responsible for the death of William because he abandoned his creation and made the monster learn the hard way that he would not be accepted into society. But he has no choice but to let Justine take the fall for the death of his brother because he fears being seen as a madman.
In the story Frankenstein there is parts of the story that relates to sadness in a big part. Why the monster? He wanted to father science yes but to me he doesn’t have that many people that he has anymore so he is looking for a friend that could be everlasting. Frankenstein is the creator’s name not the monster’s name.
The Monster is the victim because his creator abandons him, his appearance affects his relationship with the people he meets, and his desire to feel loved. To begin, his creator abandons him. Victor creates Frankenstein, but is afraid of him. “He might have spoken, but I did not hear; one hand was stretched out, seemingly to detain me, but I escaped and rushed down stairs” (Shelley 44). Victor cannot put up with the sight and deserts him.

Emotions unify the characters at various points in the story, portray their individual personalities, and contrast them against each other. The influence of nature on the thread of emotions and how the inner feelings of main characters are interpreted by others emphasizes the importance of emotions to the Romantics.
The monsters revenge on Frankenstein, drives him too to be full of hatred and need for vengeance because he destroyed everything good in his life. He feels as the death of his loved ones is his fault because he is the one that created the horrid creature in the first place (Brackett). “As time passed away I became more calm; misery had her dwelling in my heart, but I no longer talked in the same incoherent manner of my own crimes; sufficient for me was the consciousness of them” (Shelley 158). The monster wanted Victor to feel the same thing as him, lonely and sadness. The monsters revenge works, Victor becomes rejected by people and has nobody but himself.
I found a list of gothic elements in literature (aside from our lecture, that is), and I used that as I read Frankenstein (http://www.virtualsalt.com/gothic.htm). Though some might argue that a gothic story is mostly defined by the mood that it sets with the reader, I am far more accustomed to breaking things down into specifics to analyze the parts of a story. I like lists, so you can just silently whisper to yourself how I’m anal and OCD. Don’t worry, I’m aware.
