After the War of 1812 the American people were able to bounce back into the global sense of sovereignty after the showed how powerful their younger country was. They now could look inward and not worry that much about an attack or another war. Gordon Wood writes about his is his final chapter of his book Empire of Liberty, “American society, or at least the Northern part of American society, was coming more and more resemble what Franklin and Crevecoeur had imagined in the 1780’s, a society that seemed to lack both an aristocracy and lower class.” (Pg 711) This quote echoes sentiments of the 19th century within the 21st century which is something that one should do in order to see that we are not that different as a country then we were at that time. This could then be turned to the concept of inequality that had run rampant with the war diverting the government while the American people laid by the waist side during the 21st century. But also the fact that they did not have an aristocracy or a lower class seems to be in the fact that they had not allowed for the stratification of our society In the 21st century in America is completely different then in the 19th century then especially in the stratification of our economic system. We have an aristocracy in all but name and our lower class is something that has been growing and growing and leading to many candidates such as Bernie Sanders trying to help them out.
