Introduction An employee handbook is a tool that employers use to communicate the policies that are important to their company (Morris, 2014). The handbook, not only addresses the policies for the company, but also sets the expectations that the company has for the employees that work there (Morris, 2014). The employee handbook needs to follow the vision the company has for itself, but also needs to maintain compliance with the law. Policies; in and of themselves, simply set the expectations and regulations for the employees and; thereby, regulate the employees interactions and behaviors (Hannah & Robertson, 2015). Four areas that employers with 15-25 employees need to pay close attention to are safety, confidentiality, technology use and anti-discrimination. Employee Handbook – Why and What The employee handbook contains a set of policies that the management of the company uses to conduct their interactions with the employees inside the company (Ellerman & Kleiner, 2000). The handbook itself sets the beginning stages of the tone of how business is conducted and is often one of the first glimpses a new employee has inside the operations of the company. The handbook policies tell employees how to conduct themselves, how to form relationships and how to report to upper management.
