Enablers As discussed in the school’s historical context, significant change occurred within this setting as a result of the UNESCO World Conference (1990) and the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) being implemented. This school is also influenced by current legislation and practices. The Inclusive Education Statement (2005) places emphasis on aligning the curriculum and teaching pedagogy to specifically meet and cater for the diverse needs of all learners (Knight, 1999 & Slee, 2001). Thus, teachers at this school undergo regular training to update their skills set in order to remove barriers to learning and shift the focus from individual education to catering for all learners within a socially just environment (Knight, 1999). This training has equipped teachers with the necessary skills needed to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that all students with identified learning difficulties have equal access to the curriculum. Furthermore, this school mandates teachers to differentiate their instructions, and assess students’ knowledge whilst providing multiple ways for students to learn in meaning ways, which is a key factor of by the Melbourne Declaration (2008). Teachers at this school are now accountable for differentiating the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners.
