To what extent do students speak the Igbo Language? 2. In what ways do WhatsApp support the Igbo Language? 3. How has WhatApp influenced the endangerment of Igbo Language? From the answers of the respondents, there was a significant agreement that the Igbo Language is on the decline and the advent of the new media has accelerated it. The decline is more rapid with the students who are not domiciled in Igbo land. This confirms the findings of the questionnaire which indicated that the Igbo Language is in decline. The logical conclusion from the surveys of the two universities in a particular geographical area is that the new media, represented by WhatsApp has a great influence on the spoken Igbo of that particular population. Because language is critical to the development of culture, there is the need by the new media to put other languages, especially Igbo consideration as one of the media of communication. Hopefully, this study will contribute to the steps in achieving a balance in the media (WhatsApp) in the development of Igbo Language through the new media.
