“New Ending to Dracula” Dracula has appealed to readers for more then a century, at least in part because it deals with one of the great human conflicts: the struggle between good and evil. Stoker acknowledges the this conflict by showing good characters who are attracted to evil. For example, Jonathan Harker, the lawyer who journeys to Transylvania, is almost attacked at Dracula's castle by three young female vampires. In fact, he seems to be actually welcoming the attack before it is interrupted by the count. But he ends up finding out that the count is actually a vampire and flees. As Dracula the vampire successfully reaches London, he transforms Lucy, a friend of Harkers fiancée Mina, into a vampire. Harker finally decides he has to destroy Dracula, but with the help of a knowledgeable Professor called Van Helsing. The men decide to hunt down Dracula. Unfortunately, Mina is attacked and begins to change into a vampire slowly as they successfully track down the boxes the count uses as sanctuary at night. They sterilize the boxes, forcing the count back to Transylvania. They separate and track the count across land and sea. Finally they kill the female vampires in the castle and slay the count just before he reaches his castle and Mina is saved. My new ending starts just like the book, Dracula is about to get killed, and in the split second before he dies, he instantly regrets all the bad things he has done in his life as a vampire. At first he thinks that maybe this is hell or purgatory, a place he is doomed to spend an eternity in. As he starts walking around, he notices a few things. First he notices all these strange buildings. Second he sees a ton of people walking around. Lastly he deduces that he is no longer a vampire and that his blood lust is gone for good. We come to realize that this is not purgatory, and that Dracula is actually on earth, specifically NYC in the late 1890’s. Dracula, not knowing why he was given this second chance at life, tries to make the best of it. He changes his name to Drake and gets a job working in a factory and finds a place to live. Dracula even makes a few friends, one of whom bears a striking resemblance to Mina. Her name is Rose. She is very beautiful and kind. Dracula is drawn to her, and her to him. They start going out. On one night after the theatre, Dracula is walking Rose home. On the way home, they are mugged. While saving Rose’s life, Dracula is shot and sadly dies in her arms. He is taken to the morgue. A few hours later he miraculously comes back to life. It is then that we realize that while Dracula is no longer a vampire, he is
