In this essay I will be written about the book “Enduring Love” by Ian McEwan and the adaption by film directed by Roger Mitchell. I will be explaining differences and similarities between the book and the films plot, the characters, and the setting. The book and the film both share the same story line, but the film contains many added details which are not it the book and has many details missing which were in the book. The story begins with a tragic balloon accident in which Joe Rose, the protagonist, assists to a mans death. The film however had many added details which were not always necessary, but also left out many of the most interesting parts of the book which I found a shame. This is why I very much prefer the book to the movie. The first chapter of the book starts with a flashback described by Joe, the narrater, in which we get detailed descriptions of a man named John Logan’s death in a ballon accident, whilst trying to help an endangered young boy in the basket of the balloon. There is also a scene in the airport before the accident took place in which Joe and Clarissa meet after six weeks of their parting. This scene never appeared in the film but started with the picnic of Clarissa and Joe which is followed by the accident. In the book, Clarissa, who is oddly called Claire in the film, is unable to have children which plays an important role in the relationship between Joe and Clarissa. This is omitted in the film. In fact, Joe and Clarissa are already married in the book, but in the film Joe had intended to propose to Clarissa at their picnic but he wasn 't able to due to the accident that
