This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.
Meagan Sanders Mrs. Smith AP Literature and Composition September 20, 2017 How to Read Literature like a Professor Thomas Foster wrote a guide to analyzing pieces of literature to lead students in thoroughly searching through texts and documents to find hidden meanings and the reason behind what the author wrote what he did and why he used the techniques he used. Foster used a first-person point of view to help the reader relate better to the topics and his explanation. He changes his tone according to the subject matter he is discussing to change the mood of the text. As well as alluding to multiple classic pieces of literature, he creates an easy systematic guide that benefits students wishing to excel in reading and writing based classes. Foster chooses to use the first person point of view.
Against School by John Gatto is an essay that attempts to persuade the reader that public education fails to educate its students. The main way Gatto tries to persuade his audience is by presenting anecdotal evidence and by showing the historical narrative to the education system of the Untied States. Gatto attempts also attempts to reach out to his audience by referring to commonalities in the public education system that have been experienced by many people. Overall the essay is persuasive but lacks any practical authority. The first thing the author does is provide background, background on himself and the situation with education in the United States; and, this is what the author primarily does.
In "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell, the external conflicts faced by Sanger Rainsford, the protagonist, create an internal conflict within him. The external conflicts include his struggle to survive on a remote island, his pursuit by General Zaroff, and his participation in the deadly game of hunting humans. These external conflicts force Rainsford to question his beliefs and values, leading to an internal conflict about his own humanity and the morality of the hunt. At the beginning of the story, Rainsford is a successful big-game hunter who believes in the thrill of the hunt.
Although some aspects the famous writers contributed benefited the narrator. The tone Tobias Wolff uses to describe the writing contest is to initially improve the students’ writing skills by learning from the visiting authors. Before the contest, the narrator’s stories appeared to be dishonest and as they were “props in an act” (Wolff 110). The “props” characterized his dishonest background in his stories, making himself seem more like the other boys in his school. However Hemingway stepped in to teach the narrator that it was acceptable to have flaws in himself and his stories, in addition that he should be honest in his writing, therefore also influencing the narrator positively.

Literary devices like simile, metaphor, suspense, personification, allusion, irony, foreshadowing, and imagery are used in lots of stories.
