World energy consumption is growing rapidly and is raising huge concern over supply difficulties, over consumption of energy resources and its heavy impact on environment. The rapid growth of population is also bringing the high demand for building services and comfort levels. Furthermore, the longer time staying of residents in buildings will assure the upward trend of energy consumption demand in the future. The higher demand in energy requires the building to be more energy efficient in all levels of regional, national, and international. Long before the modern air conditioning systems created, with their complicated pumps, environmental threatening refrigerants, and heat exchangers, the ancient Persians architects and engineers devised a way to use the natural differences in pressures and temperatures to cool down buildings and make them habitable even in scorching and hot-humid climate areas of country. Wind catchers or Badgirs are tall, boxy shape towers that rise up and out of buildings like large chimneys [2]. The Badgir towers are high enough to be able to catch the breeze that blows across the top of buildings, the Badgir traps the breeze and directs it down through its duct or chimney into the building. The opening entrance of Badgir is facing the direction of breeze and easily catch the breeze, compress the air and direct it down through the lowest level of building, such as basement. The breeze on top of the buildings can frequently change direction and come from different directions, that’s why many of Badgirs have four or more faces on each side of a square.
