It was self-explanatory at first when determining what was needed, but initially I had issues in finding the articles due to the limited nature of the topic. What were more available were books, and with I looked at the author’s background and what validity they posed to the research being conducted. One of the biggest things I was looking for, was relevancy. It had to be relevant and fit my criteria in terms of what I needed for my research. What seemed to be the easiest part was the outline to help my assignment.
I had underestimated how time consuming research could take. I also struggled to find credible sources. It is also important to remember when conducting research one does not stray away from the main idea. Being a UC Merced student I am offered numerous resources and opportunities.
Writing Assignment #1 Gerald Graff is an English Professor at the University of Illinois and also the founder of “Teachers for a Democratic Culture”. In his article “Hidden Intellectualism”, he explains how non-academic writing and discussions involving “lightweight” subject matter can improve one’s writing and allow for critical thinking (245). He starts off by stating “Everyone knows some young person who is impressively street smart but does poorly in school” (244). He refers to his experience of how he was not always interested in reading scholarly, but without recognizing it, he was building himself towards an academic life. Graff describes how he used his interest in sports to excel in academics.
From 1450 to 1750, global networks began to expand. Though not every part of the world was involved in these expanding global networks, countries like China were. This was the time period of the Ming and the Qing Dynasties. There were changes and continuities with China’s participation in the global networks around this time period. During the time period between 1450 and 1750, China limited outside influence and their participation in the Silk Road Trading remained constant in global network trading, while there were significant changes in China’s participation in global networks such as Chinese converts to the Christian religion and China’s demand for an alternative medium of exchange.
English 1301 has definitely grown me as a writer and I can see how I have improved as a writer. One aspect in how my writing has grown is in the ability for myself to expand on my ideas. Honestly, the first paper that was assigned to me frightened me a little bit because of the four page minimum requirement. Never have I wrote a paper this long because I typically just write the basic requirements and never expand and elaborate on my ideas. However, it forced me to expand my ideas and as time progressed, this became very simple to execute.
Throughout humanity, humans have been isolated to social classes and divided due to wealth, and status. Europe during 1450 to 1700 was issuing a major problem because poverty was common throughout Europe. This was a major problem as poverty was one of the factors of the high death rates because of starvation. As a result, many different European countries including the Spanish, France, Great Britain, and Netherlands, spoke up to the occasion in different attitudes and responses. Many individuals whether they are rulers, doctors, artists, council members had a different view to the poor as some will have a negative connotation portraying the unfortunate as idleness, while others will show sympathy and positivity in their ideas.
Over the course of English 1302 at Texas Tech, I feel that my skills as a writer improved significantly. When beginning the class, I knew little about writing a literature review or researched argument. With the help of my instructor’s lectures and the University Writing Center, I was able to effectively get my point across effectively while forming a well developed and well spoken manner. The advice given to me about argumentative essays and integrating sources helped significantly over the course of this class, and the skills learned in English 1302 helped me in other classes this semester when writing as well. One of the things I have learned that influenced me the most was my professor’s advice about an argument.
A time of racism, separation and inequality was brought upon the innocent people as a daily issue throughout the United States. People were separated and treated unequally in the start of the early 1900’s to mid 1950’s due to the color of their skin. While the 1950 racial discrimination disrupted many in society, the Brown vs. Board of Education case desired the respect and equality for all the separations and rejections of colored children in public schools. Many negroes, who grew up in the 1950’s, were resentfully rejected from white based schools simply because of their race (Brown 1). One of these negroes was a girl named Linda Brown.

Lejla Hodzic Mrs.Monroe English III(H): Period 3 Journal Reflection-MP1 When first writing in my journal I struggled with how deep to go with my discussion questions and what I should be asking my classmates. I feel that I have struggled with this because I lack confidence on what I am trying to prove or say in my writing. When reading in the past I have never pushed myself to question the author’s purpose or ask questions that invoke much thought. Up to this point in the year writing in my journal as well as annotating in the text, has helped my reading and writing immensely.
Transitioning from high school to college can be overwhelming. Before English 1301, I did not worry about preparing for college. I quickly realized that my little background in writing essays was not enough for college courses. Writing is not just a skill that I will need for English classes. In college, I will have to use effective writing skills in all my classes to complete research papers, essay tests and communicate with professors.
English 102 Reflection During the course of English 102, I took this year of the spring semester. I have accomplished a variety of goals I once thought were impossible. I have not only grown as a writer and a student but as an individual as well. I feel that through my experience of this English course, I have achieved knowledge and self-confidence to step out into the real world.
English 1121 has helped me to become an enhanced reader and writer. I now have confidence in my writing and reading abilities. I never realized that I could become a good writer. A tremendous amount of effort was put forth into each of my papers and I asked questions whenever I was frazzled. I strived for success.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
My journey in this English 3001 course during the past ten weeks, and over the course of taking is English class I have grown and learned more that I thought it is necessary for me to know as a student. I have improved in my overall writing skills because if you look at my second in-class essay and the rest of my essay you will see that I have made progress and improvement compare to my diagnostic essay and the first in-class essay. Moreover, now that I have completed the English course my skills are better that I am capable to meet the university standard writing requirements. This English course additionally taught me how powerful the composed word and language can be. This quarter my ability to compose essays and express my thoughts, ideas,
