The English Bill of Rights of 1689 was a highly influential document to many other countries as they drafted their own constitutional laws; it was especially impactful to the American Declaration of Independence when it was written in 1776. The focus of the English Bill of Rights of 1689 was to legally require the leadership, of that time and future, to rule partnered with parliament and to recognize and respect the rights of the citizens. The American Declaration of Independence used many of the laws outlined in the English Bill of Rights as a guide when creating their laws. The influence of English Bill of Rights on the Declaration of Independence is made evident initially because there are some laws that are virtually the same in both documents.
