Over the many years that bulldogs have been alive, they have had an amazing history. Firstly, they were named bulldogs because they were used for bull allurement, but bull allurement stopped after the rule of no using animals to kill each other (Bulldog). They have also been a strong, mighty mascot to many universities including: Butler University, Georgetown University, Mississippi State University, Yale University, University of Georgia, and forty more universities. They were used for school mascots because of how strong and mighty they looked, and the schools wanted the look of a powerful mascot for their university (The mascot). They also wanted the bulldog for their mascot because of how loving and nurturing they are with fans, especially the kids. At Mississippi State, the bulldog first became the mascot when there was a military parade, and there was a coffin with the school’s colors and a bulldog pup on the same day of a game. After a paper was published about their being a “bulldog” style of play, Mississippi State accepted it as their university’s mascot (Mississippi State Traditions).
