Over the course of English Composition at Eastern Washington University my writing has change drastically. The way I write compared to high school has changed immensely; not only am I more confident in my writing ability but I also have learned to write more academically, intelligently and purposefully. When starting my first quarter of English Composition I had only previously take 2 years of high school language arts. Jumping from sophomore English to College Composition was a giant leap forward. In high school, I had teachers supply me with a complete outline for my writing, usually had weeks to prepare and plenty of class time to finish it up. As I transition to college writing, I began to see a big difference in expectations. For most assignments, I was given simply the requirements for the assignment in class and it was not brought up until the end of the week it was due. This alone required many adjustments. I now had to learn to structure an essay completely on my own with little help from professors along the way. I also had to learn time management along …show more content…

My first essay I turned in, in a College Composition course was very poorly written. It was full of errors and failed to meet many of the requirements. To me this was a huge wake up call, it was the first time I ever received a low grade for my writing before. After this, I realized that the way I write would need to change immensely but also very quickly. After this essay I was able to adjust for the assignments to come. After this adjustment I saw many improvements within my writing. I quickly learned how to structure my own essays for the first time, occasionally remembering previous high school assignments for guidance. Not only did I learn how to complete my essays so that they flowed and made sense, I was also able to learn how to write more
