England, the mother country, has for years dealt with the American colonists as a fair and loving parent. England provides protection of the American colonists from its enemies (France/Spain/Native-Americans) by its large navy and the stationing of over 10,000 troops in America. England also helps America economically by protecting American goods and supplies from foreign competition. Between 1607 and 1754, many British North American colonies were formed. Many colonists migrated to the New World seeking profit. One thing that these colonists had in common was that they still had a British identity. However, as the colonists became more and more stable in their own ways, the resentment of England grew. Eventually, the British American colonists created a self identity distinct from that of the citizens of England.
Most of the colonies in America were settled by the English, which makes them similar in many designs. However, there are a few aspects that differentiate between colonies, such as in the Chesapeake and New England regions. Reasons for settlement, religions, and geography all played an important role in the development of colonies in these regions. These conditions were natural and mostly subject to circumstances and conditions that were unchangeable. Nonetheless, no matter the modest causes, the effects were very substantial in helping to develop the uniqueness of each region.
Early American colonies were the base of what it is now known the United States of America. Although almost all of the colonies were from the same time period each colony differed from each other. Some of the colonies differed by their economic system and also by their way of running their colony, their government. Also, the colonies differed from their culture and their way they lived. In addition, the New England and the Chesapeake colonies were not the exception they also differed from each other.
My ancestors emigrated from seven different countries in Europe. This makes me Irish, German, Swiss, Norwegian, Croatian, Polish and Austrian. On my dad’s side we can trace back our lineage to my Great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great Grandfather, Martin Harnish born in 1695, who emigrated from Switzerland to the U.S. to New York in 1715 and started the Harnish farm in Pennsylvania. At that time the Tuscarora War ends and the fist total eclipse was visible in London for almost 900 years. Martin Harnish is the earliest immigrant to the United States in my family, making 11 generations in the United States.
Why did the English come to North America? One reason is religion. Back home there wasn’t much religious freedom, and the people known as quakers, puritans, and separatists wanted to have more religious freedom. Another reason is money. Most of the people that took boats to North America weren’t in the best financial situation, and hoped to make money from North America.
The mid-19th century saw an unprecedented wave of immigrants coming into the country. At its peak, Ellis Island, the main processing station for immigrants, handled an astounding 5,000 people every day. Because of the language and culture barriers faced by each group of people, they often settled amongst themselves. Very quickly, country-specific neighborhoods began popping up throughout New York and the surrounding area. This helped to alleviate the stresses with moving to a new country; however, most immigrants came to the United States penniless and lived in low-income housing as their jobs rarely supported themselves let alone their families.
Today, most immigrants come from Latin America and Asia, instead of Europe. In the 1880’s, the Alien Contract Labor law and the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed which restricted certain laborers from immigrating to the U.S. because the Chinese were willing to work for less than the American people. Americans did not like that because it caused wages to drop. In 1892, Ellis Island opened in New York which was an immigration station where immigrants would gather to enter America. They were subject to health and legal inspections and were questioned.
Those new immigrants were known as the New immigrants. The new immigrants mostly came from Southern and Eastern Europe. Some would come from far places like Asia. Because of the new immigrants, the already diverse American
New Immigrants vs. Old Immigrants The united states is full of immigrants. A American is either an immigrant or has someone in their family who were one. A great period of immigration occurred during the 1800s on to the 1920s when two waves of immigrants came to American shores from Europe. Old immigrants arrived in the mid-1800s mostly coming from Northwestern Europe.

During the late 19th century in the US, there was a massive influx of immigrants from all over the world, as well as movement of people already living in the US to different areas. These people were primarily seeking better job opportunities due to numerous economic issues in foreign countries and social tensions in the post-Reconstruction US.
I was 10 years old when my parents finally allowed me to help cultivate the corn crops on the plantation we owned. Even though the hot Mexico sun was beating down and the air was so humid you could feel it on your fingertips, I loved every second of it. Year after year, I remember salvaging a few ears of corn and running back into the house, hoping that I don’t hear my parents coming after me. “Andrea!” they would shout, and I would giggle and put my hands behind my back. Then, I would stuff the stolen crops in the small crevice between the cupboard and the wall.
There were several problems. They faced massive immigration from Germanic tribes in the northwest, payment for civil jobs had not kept up with inflation, there was no efficient and reliable system for communication over great distances. A substantial number of wealthy and powerful citizens were abandoning the western half of the empire and moving to the larger cities in the east, and many powerful families in the west were leaving the cities and retiring to private estates in the

In the 1800-1880s, one of the main reasons immigrants moved, was because of the rising of taxes in their area which made them want to escape from that. Today, in modern day America, we still move in search for better jobs. Because the world has changed in so many ways, we constantly move, however, one of the main reasons is because of natural disasters that may have occurred in a particular area, which causes groups of families to move out of their old homes into a new location.
