After reading chapter six I liked how it was a transition from the previous chapters. This chapter was a little different to the ones before. This chapter explained on how every time we use language we send a message about our thinking. As humans, we send messages in different ways. For example it can be from speaking, writing, sharing ideas to another person, sharing our feelings all of these are ways we use language to share what we are thinking. This chapter really emphasizes on how language is the bedrock of our relation with people. It is really all around us and we might not really notice how important it is to us. In our daily life words are the most common symbols we use. Words may only be sounds or written letters, but they are very important for every human being. Words can mean ideas, objects, or expressions. I did not really think so much of language, but there was a section in the chapter where they said that language could take two forms they can be spoken or written. They described language as a set of symbolic building blocks. The basic blocks are sounds and they can be symbolized as letters. Sounds then form the phonetic foundation of a language and depending on the language they can have different sounds.
In this chapter they also had a section where they talked about emotive language. Emotive language expresses our feelings and arouses or evokes feelings in others. I personally think that I do use some emotive language when I am talking to someone about something that has happened to me. I want the person who I am talking to, to imagine themselves in my shoes, and to give them as much details as I can. I want them to really understand what I was feeling at that time. I feel like emotive words just make everything you are talking about more powerful, they really emphasize your emotions and feelings towards a
